Skater Code of Conduct

The Morrisburg & District Skating Club expects each skater to act in a courteous and considerate manner and to skate safely.

Please pay special attention to the following points:

  1. Be AWARE of other skaters at ALL times.
    • Make sure you can SEE skaters around you – especially when skating backwards!
    • Learn other skater’s “traffic patterns” (ie: pay attention to their solos and learn where they place their jumps, spins, etc.)
  2. SHOW RESPECT to all skaters and coaches
    • Avoid, whenever possible, skating in an area where another skater is receiving a private lesson
    • Stay clear of skaters performing to their music (freeskate solo, dance, skills, etc.)
      • Jr/Int. combined sessions - when a skater says ‘excuse me’ during a lesson, solo, dance, skills pattern – MOVE out of their way as quickly & safely as possible
      • Sr/Int. combined sessions – it may be safer to STAY STILL until the skater passes, rather than guessing which way to go.
    • Encourage your fellow skaters in a positive and supportive manner – leave your differences at the door.
    • When possible, be on time for ice sessions and try to stay on for the remainder of each session
  3. COMMUNICATE
    • With other skaters:
      • When in lesson, or performing to your music say “EXCUSE ME” to let others know you need through
    • With music player:
      • If finished with music, or refusing – the SKATER CALLED must wave to the music player
  4. GENERAL SAFETY
    • When you fall (and are not hurt), get up quickly
    • Food, gum, drinks, coins, or any items that could spill or fall onto the ice surface are not permitted on the ice
    • Skater should wear guards off ice at all times. These protect the blades as well as arena property
    • During individual practice times, try to keep spins in the center of the ice and jumps & field movements to the ends and sides
    • Group practicing should be limited to group lesson times.
    • Use the ice. Avoid staying in one spot and practicing there the entire session – this allows fair ice use for everyone.
    • Skaters are to repair any holes they make in the ice using the pail of snow left by the east entrance door
    • Skaters must keep all rink-side doors closed and latched after entering or exiting the ice.
    • Keep the socializing/talking in groups to a minimum, avoid ‘hanging out’ by the boards, if you really want to talk – get off the ice, or save it for the dressing room.
    • If taking a break along the boards – keep your back to the boards at all times – this ensures you can see other skaters and do not accidentally step into their path.
  5. CHANGE ROOMS
    • Skaters are responsible for keeping their rooms tidy and respecting each other’s belongings.
    • Senior skaters use dressing room #5
    • Intermediates & Juniors use dressing room #1
      • Exceptions:
        • Intermediates - if there is only 1 skater present in the dressing room on a combined session then she may use the senior room for safety reasons
        • Intermediates – on Friday night Jr. B games use dressing room #1 until the seniors are done then they may move their belongings up to dressing room #5.

NOTE:

Parents, please help us maintain a safe and fun atmosphere within the club by reinforcing these rules and expectations with your own skaters.

Failure to act in a courteous or safe manner after an initial warning will result in a skater being asked to leave the ice for the remainder of the skating session that evening. The warning shall be recorded, and if the skater is asked to leave the ice, a conflict/resolution form shall be filled out and reviewed by the Discipline Committee.

(The Discipline Committee consists of the President, Vice President and Past President)
