Guest Skating Policy

Updated: August 2021

The purpose of guest skating is to permit a skater access to additional practice ice, preparing for an upcoming competition, test, or to take advantage of an opportunity to skate on short notice.

Definition of a guest skater:

· Any skater who is enrolled in the current MDSC school and who would like to skate on a session or sessions she/he is not currently registered for.

· Any skater who is currently enrolled in a skating club outside of the MDSC school and who would like to skate on a MDSC session or sessions.

Guest Skating Permissions

In all cases the guest skater must meet the qualification criteria for the session level. If space on the session is an issue, then permission will be given based on the following permission and priority:

· Any skater who is currently registered with MDSC. Priority will be given to those preparing for a competition or test.

· Any skater who is currently registered in a skating club outside of MDSC.

· Other Non-MDSC skaters who are currently registered with Skate Canada.

In special circumstances, and by invitation or approval by the MDSC President, or delegated Director, a skater regardless of club or country of allegiance or skating level may be allowed to skate on any MDSC ice at a frequency and fee specifically determined by the President. The President shall ensure the Board, Coaching staff, and appropriate Program Representatives are informed.

Guest Skating Frequency

MDSC skaters who are currently enrolled in a program may guest skate an unlimited number of times on any appropriate MDSC session. If guest skating fees exceed session price, then skater will no longer be required to pay guest skating fees for that session.

Non-MDSC skaters currently registered with Skate Canada, who are currently enrolled at a different club may guest skate an unlimited number of times on any appropriate MDSC session, provided space is available. If guest skating fees exceed session price, then skater will no longer be required to pay guest skating fees for that session.

Music and Program Solo Privileges

Guest Skater music and program solo privileges shall be at the discretion of the MDSC Coaching Staff and Music Player. Privileges will depend on the number of registered skaters on the session, who have priority for music.

Procedures for Guest Skating

Prior to going on the ice, the skater, parent, or coach should contact the MDSC office to confirm space availability and to confirm the applicable payment arrangements.

Permission to guest skate may be given by the President, a MDSC Director, or the coaching staff. Permission will only be given at the session start when the level of the skater has been verified and it is confirmed that space is available.

*All forms MUST be completed WITH payment before the skater is allowed to skate.
